Empowering young minds
My Binkie Bear Supports Youth Mental Health Through the Black Dog Institute
positive change
At My Binkie Bear we believe that every child has a right to a healthy body and healthy mind. Our founders have directly experienced the impact of challenging mental health conditions within their family. Understanding the difficulties of this, we view the continued need for research and support of child and youth mental health as vitally important.
The Black Dog Institute resonated with us with their focus on early detection while delivering evidence-based programs and digital interventions to young people, to slow the onset and burden of mental ill health for future generations. This is why My Binkie Bear donates a percentage of profit of every Binkie Bear sold to support this important initiative.
Black Dog Institute
The Black Dog Institute was founded in 2002 and is internationally recognised as a pioneer in the identification, prevention and treatment of mental illness, and the promotion of wellbeing. They aim to improve the lives of people affected by mental illness through the rapid translation of high-quality research into improved clinical treatments, increased access to mental health services and delivery of long-term public health solutions.
Their unique approach incorporates clinical services with their cutting edge research, health professional training and community education programs. They combine expertise in clinical management with innovative research to develop new, and more effective strategies for people living with mental illness. They also place emphasis on teaching people to recognise the symptoms of poor mental health in themselves and others, as well as providing them with the right psychological tools to hold the black dog at bay.
Black Dog Institute work directly in all parts of the community as well as guiding the development of new and improved policy. They place focus on those with specific mental health needs like young people, Indigenous communities, men, and high-risk workforces.
